Conservation works are currently underway on the Royal Palace at the archaeological site Bilazora in the village of Knezhe, Sveti Nikole.
The Bilazora site in the village of Knezhe is situated 4 km west of Sveti Nikole, positioned in the eastern periphery of the village on a dominant ridge with a flat plateau overlooking Ovche Pole. Covering an area of 20 hectares, it is arranged in three concentric terraces around the central and dominant plateau, also known as the acropolis.
The entire surface of the site represents a settlement space from the 7th to the 2nd century BCE, encompassing three chronologically, culturally, and urbanistically distinct settlements. The discovered architecture, vibrant fresco decoration, and movable findings attest to its exceptionally high cultural-historical values, serving as the residence of the Paionian rulers. This makes it a unique object of its kind and time discovered so far in the interior of the Balkans.
With financial support from the Ministry of Culture, the project for the conservation of the Royal Palace at Bilazora, a significant cultural monument from the ancient period, is currently being implemented by the National Institute for Cultural Heritage and Museum – Štip.
