The archaeological excavations at the site Pilav Tepe, located in the gorge of the Madenska River, 20 km west of the expressway Štip – Radovish, are in the final phase. The project is funded by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of North Macedonia.
Through years of research, a part of a late antique necropolis has been uncovered, dating back to the time of Justin II – the late antique period, according to the findings. The graves are characterized by being covered with large monolithic blocks.
